Why do I choose to watercolor when I feel overwhelmed? Well, when putting brush to paper, I can create whatever I would like! It has been my go-to escape from the outside chaos since my college days when there was always a need for a break. Even now, I find myself going back to it when I need to concentrate on one thing.
Sure, I'm artistic, but my love for watercolor runs deeper than just that! There's something about the way each brush stroke calms my mind. Here are a few reasons I turn to watercolor:
RELAXATION AND STRESS RELIEF
With the mixing of colors to find the perfect match to the brush strokes on the page, watch each worry go away. While some might think watercolor has to be precise, I feel that you can be as loose as you want in your painting. This allows you to just relax into each brush stroke. I can already feel the tension easing!
FOCUS AND CONCENTRATION
While you feel the stress leaving, you are able to focus on what is in front of you. The single painting that you are working on gets your unwavering focus and concentration. With each brush stroke, you are able to see what you should do next, whether that be putting more color on or letting it dry, you'll know.
ENHANCES CREATIVITY
Watercolor has many possibilities, from subtle washes of color to bold brushstrokes. There's no limit to the creativity it inspires. There are so many types of watercolor and everyday items you can use, such as salt to give a different texture or simply taping off portions to give a fun design! Each time you are painting, you are putting emotions on the canvas by the colors you choose or the type of brush strokes you use to create a masterpiece.
BOOSTS CONFIDENCE
Seeing something you have created is one way to boost your confidence, but learning a new technique is another. I have sold watercolor cards before, and seeing that it has put smiles on people's faces made me do a little mental happy dance. I've learned to believe in myself, both as an artist and as a person.
PROMOTES MINDFULNESS
Every brushstroke is a meditation, grounding me in the present moment. As colors blend and flow across the paper, I find myself connecting with the world around me in ways I never thought possible.
In the whirlwind of life, watercolor is my anchor, my sanctuary. With each painting, I discover new depths of creativity and self-discovery. So come, dip your brush in the palette of possibilities – there's always something new to explore, and I'll be here, ready to dive right in.
