Time for another #diyproject with Joel and Jess! Awhile back we made a storage bed frame and had plans to make a headboard to go with it. Fast forward through the holiday season, getting married, etc., etc., and we are finally back at it! This project was an interesting one- we have a HUGE blank wall (we live in a rental and don't really want to deal with painting and repainting) so cue brainstorming. We both like a rustic feel and had a whole pile of scrap pallet wood in our garage (for sign-making)- put them together you get a textured-wood plank-rustic-looking wall- and we. love. it. This project took quite a few twists and turns and looking back on it now I don't know how we ever got to the finish line! Nonetheless, here are the rough instructions to follow if you are looking for project inspiration. P.S. you should probably like doing puzzles 😉
Skill level:
Medium-ish
Materials:
Plywood- size will be dependent of the size of headboard you are making or size of wall you are covering.
Scrap wood- a lot of it- enough to piece together to cover the plywood. You will want varying sizes- length and thickness.
Brads- again, you will need quite a few as you will be putting at least two nails into each piece of wood.
Finishing nailer
Skill Saw- for trimming over-hanging pieces.
Screw Gun and screws
Tape Measure
Wood Treatment- I am using one of my favorites by Varathane called "Weathered Wood"
You will also need a plan for anchoring to the wall if that's what you choose to do. Since we are using this as a headboard, we are going to attach the plywood to 1x12's that will be attached to the bed frame (this is shown in our video).
Again, this plan is for a more advanced builder (let's be real- I would struggle without Joel 😂), but can always be modified or used for inspiration.
Happy Building!
