2023 READING WRAP-UP

My 2023 Reading Wrap-Up

2023 was a weird year for me and that was also reflected in my Goodreads 2023 Reading Challenge 😹

I was very much on track to finish my goal of 40 for the year, but I didn’t finish a single book from August through December! That’s just crazy considering by the end of July I had read 28 out of my 40 books for the year. I got extremely busy with family outings, work, and volunteering for REC that I just couldn’t find time to read at the end of 2023. I definitely missed it 😿

HERE’S MY YEAR IN BOOKS:

  • 10,626 pages read

  • 28/40 books read

  • Shortest book: 95 pages (The Game of Life and How to Play It by Florence Scovel Shinn)

  • Longest book: 561 pages (Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo)

  • Average book length: 379 pages

  • Most shelved: Verity by Colleen Hoover

  • Least shelved: Finding What’s Real by Emma Harrison

  • My average rating for 2023: 4.3 ⭐️

  • Highest rated on Goodreads: Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

JANUARY 2023 BOOKS: 2

There was nothing special about January because I was super busy at work so I didn’t have as much time I would have liked to spend on reading. I was also taking my Dale Carnegie classes, so technically I read 2 books for that too but I didn’t count them in my wrap-up because I didn’t finish them.

  1. Before My Eyes by Caroline Bock: 4 ⭐️

  2. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo: 5 ⭐️

FEBRUARY - MARCH 2023 BOOKS: 1

I was still very busy with work during these month so I read even less 😹 My main goal was to finish the Six of Crows books so I could watch the TV show.

  1. Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo: 5 ⭐️

APRIL 2023 BOOKS: 8

I was on a serious mission in April to read all the books! It was definitely triggered by how much I enjoyed The Inheritance Games and A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. I wanted to finish the A Good Girl's Guide to Murder series so bad, I probably read all those within a few days of each other because I liked them so much!

  1. The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes: 5 ⭐️

  2. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson: 5 ⭐️

  3. Good Girl, Bad Blood by Holly Jackson: 5 ⭐️

  4. In Some Other Life by Jessica Brody: 3 ⭐️

  5. As Good As Dead by Holly Jackson: 5 ⭐️

  6. Kill Joy by Holly Jackson: 4 ⭐️

  7. Blonde OPS by Charlotte Bennardo and Natalie Zaman: 3 ⭐️

  8. The Red Queen by Philippe Gregory: 4 ⭐️

MAY 2023 BOOKS: 5

While I didn’t read as many books in May, I still read some solid ones. We lost Marge in May so I was also very preoccupied with all that. I wanted to start The Witcher series, but it was definitely a slower read for me with the way it was written. I’m excited to finish the Miss Peregrine’s series in 2024!

  1. Blood of Elves by Andrzej Sapkowski and Danusia Stok: 4 ⭐️

  2. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs: 4 ⭐️

  3. Hollow City by Ransom Riggs: 4 ⭐️

  4. The Last Summer of the Garrett Girls by Jessica Spotswood: 3 ⭐️

  5. The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes: 5 ⭐️

JUNE 2023 BOOKS: 4

I was so obsessed with Daisy Jones & The Six and The Silent Patient! Josh and I watched Daisy Jones and I’m pretty sure I was still reading the book at the time so I insisted we could only watch up to what I had read so far. I was pretty busy in June too with some volunteer work for our town’s days, otherwise I know I would have finished more books!

  1. Yes No Maybe So by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed: 4 ⭐️

  2. Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid: 5 ⭐️

  3. The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides: 5 ⭐️

  4. The Game of Life and How to Play It by Florence Scovel Shinn: 4 ⭐️

JULY 2023 BOOKS: 8

In the summer I like to take more time off from work to enjoy time outside while it’s nice out, so I definitely turned up the reading in July! July was filled with so many amazing books!! I had such a hard time putting them down to go to bed, and even to go to work! It’s hard to say which one was my favorite!

  1. The Maze Runner by James Dashner: 4 ⭐️

  2. The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith: 5 ⭐️

  3. Escaping Perfect by Emma Harrison: 3 ⭐️

  4. Verity by Colleen Hoover: 4 ⭐️

  5. This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab: 5 ⭐️

  6. Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune: 4 ⭐️

  7. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros: 5 ⭐️

  8. Finding What’s Real by Emma Harrison: 3 ⭐️

In 2023, I tried to stay out of a reading slump by starting multiple series so when I was finished with one I was still excited to finish another. While that didn't go quite as planned, I am still looking forward to finishing all the new series I started in 2023! I will be sharing more reviews for all of these books in a future post once I complete a special project that I have planned for sharing the books I’ve read! In the meantime, I wanted to share a nice overview of what I read in 2023. Stay tuned for more to come soon!
