The world of DIY is truly tricky. I have been doing DIY projects for my different living spaces for many years and it was just recently that I started documenting my adventures. I should also point out that I do not embark on these adventures alone. My “earth mate”, now fiancé, plays an integral role in all these projects! It is with his knowledge and my vision that our projects come together- a lot of the time not going exactly as planned, but we work together and get it figured out.
In our house, a DIY project goes something like this:
“ Hey, Joel.I saw a picture of *insert project idea* and I think it is something we can make.”Or “Do you think we can do something like this? “insert project idea”.
Joel shakes his head and asks me to show him what I am thinking about.
I proceed to try and verbally explain what I am asking for.
He draws out what he thinks I am talking about.
I fix his drawing to match my vision.
We proceed with the project, with many twists and turns, and me changing my mind along the way.
The project gets finished, we crack a beer and cheers to a job well done.
(There may be some bickering back and forth, a couple trips to the hardware store to get something we forgot, etc. thrown in there, too.)
Our most recent project is a DIY, three-sided bedframe, with storage. We recently purchased our first new bed together- I won out and got a KING-SIZE- and we decided that we wanted to have a bedframe to go with it. Yes, we could’ve gone out and purchased something, but at the same time we both knew it was something we could handle making. We purchased the wood and hardware and got to work…next came the idea of trying to do a semi-tutorial video for those other DIY-ers out there- so here you go:
Happy Building!
