Oh, Fall. The most wonderful time of the year (in my opinion anyway). It’s hard to explain the feeling I get when fall comes each year, but it is something in the way the air smells and feels- and I love it!
Not only do I like the season, I love decorating for it, too. From the cute little pumpkins and scarecrows, to the sunflowers and rich colors- I love all of it! And the smells- I love the smells, too! Apple pie, pumpkin spice, vanilla spice- basically the entire Bath and Body Works fall collection- yes, please!
(Can you tell I like fall a little bit? 😉)
On the décor front- I definitely have my go-to items- things I have had for a few years, from my glittery tulle wreath (which was one of the first crafts I made it my adult life and is really one of the items that reignited my creative flame”), to my little Dollar Store scarecrows (which are waaayyy too cute to part with). This year I wanted to throw a few NEW decorations into the mix. At the end of August I posted a link on how to make little shabby chic fabric pumpkins and I knew that this was DEFINITELY something I wanted to try out. Here is the original link from AKA Design: http://akadesign.ca/fall-project-2-fabric-cinderella-pumpkins/. I also wanted to share my interpretation, so here goes:
MINI FABRIC PUMPKIN WITH TWINE (project time= 20 minutes)
SUPPLIES:
Scissors
Regular size needle and thread
Twine
Dinner plate
Hot glue gun
Fat quarters (or other fabric scraps the same size as a fat quarter), colors to match your theme/décor
Stuffing/Fiber fill
INSTRUCTIONS:
(following the beginning instructions from the AKA Design tutorial)
Trace the plate on the fabric. Cut out circle
Thread your needle and sew around the circumference of the circle. When you reach the end, carefully pull tight so you make a pouch.
I only used stuffing and it worked out just fine.
Close the top of the pouch and tie off.
(this is where I changed it up a bit because I liked the look of twine)
Cut two pieces of twine about 8 inches long. Wrap one piece around the pumpkin to create halves, tie at the top. Leave the extra length.
Tie the 2nd piece of twine around the pumpkin to make quarters, tie at the top. Leave the extra length.
Create a loop with the extra twine (this will be the stem) and wrap the twine around the bottom. You can leave a little extra on the ends to make the “vines”. Hot glue into place.
Viola! You now have a cute little stuffed pumpkin! (Now to make about 5 more!)
See? I told you there are so many cute (and easy) decorations to make for fall. Do you need another reason to like fall décor? A lot of the items can be re-used for Thanksgiving- add a couple turkeys or cornucopias and you are good to go!
Looking for more inspiration? Here are some great mantle/gallery wall ideas that I think are FAN-TASTIC! Tip: if you don’t have a mantle or wall or don’t like the WHOLE look, just find smaller items that you like and will work in your space.
