{RED, WHITE, AND BLUE} PATRIOTIC DECOR

Updated: Dec 30, 2023

Can you believe that the 4th of July is in just a few days?? I know I can’t- this summer is just flying by! Even though it has been going fast, it has been filled with lots of adventures and memories 😊 This year Elisa and her husband Jake are coming up to Valley City to spend a long weekend with us (yay for more sister time!!). I have lots of activities planned- from yard games to quilt store shopping, hitting up the fireworks stand to going out in the boat on the river- it’s going to be such a fun weekend! I’m sure we will also partake in the traditional backyard BBQ, bonfire, and attending a fireworks display (and let me tell you- even though this is small town ND, there are still some pretty spectacular displays around here). So in preparation for my house guests and this wonderful holiday, I had to spruce up the living room and add some patriotic decor (I mean who can resist a tassel garland? 🙂). As you may have noticed, my decor style is pretty simple and I like to incorporate my holiday/event decor with what I have up year round. I also have this awesome wood window box shelf thingy that Joel and I made a couple years ago and I love it because it is so versatile! It looks amazing by itself and its so neutral that it looks great with “special” decor, too. Here are some pictures of my living decor, along with a short tutorial for the Red, White, and Blue Tassel Garland (I found a new, easier way to create this fun look and I had to share it with you all! If you want to see my original tutorial- CLICK HERE).

Have a Happy 4th of July! Happy Birthday, America! 🇺🇸❤️💙

Red, White, and Blue Tassel Garland Tutorial:

SUPPLIES:

  • Red, white and blue yarn

  • A small piece of cardboard

  • Scissors

  • Yarn needle

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut a small piece of cardboard (make sure it is the length that you want your tassels- mine is about 3 inches). P.S. save the cardboard for your next tassel garland, because you know you are going to want to make another!

  2. Wrap the yarn around the cardboard about 60 times.

  3. Carefully slide the yarn off the cardboard, holding the loop at the top.

  4. Cut a small piece of yarn (about 4.5 inches long). Wrap this around the top of the loop and knot it off (this step is explained better with the pictures 😀).

  5. Cut the bottom loops apart to create the tassel.

  6. Repeat steps 2-4 until you have created the desired number of tassels.

  7. Thread your needle with all three colors of yarn, don't cut the end, just keep pulling from the yarn skein so you can make the garland the length that you want.

  8. Insert the needle right above the string you used to tie the top loop and thread through all of the tassels you created.

  9. Cut the yarn from the skein and tie loops at the ends for easy hanging. Adjust the tassel spacing and that's it- hang up and enjoy!
