{ALERT} CRAFTING WEEKEND AHEAD

Updated: Dec 30, 2023

I have a ton of projects that have been sitting on the back burner for awhile and since this weekend is going to be wicked hot and I don’t really want to be outside, it is the perfect time to get something accomplished! (Also, being up before 10AM really helps with getting things done 😀) So bring on the coffee and let's get rolling!

PROJECT #1: SHARPIE MUGS

First up, Sharpie Mugs. I have had a stack of blank, white, ceramic mugs sitting on my craft desk for forever and they were just BEGGING to be jazzed up a bit. I have never done a project like this before and I decided to give it a whirl. My personal coffee mugs are also white, so I thought I would practice out on these first (the stack on my desk came FREE from my boyfriend’s mom and I thought they would make great gifts- with some fun coffee or tea ☕️). I am not going to show my process photos, because in all honestly it got a little messy, and this isn't exactly an original idea, but I will give this tip: RUBBING ALCOHOL IS YOUR FRIEND!

I thought that once I drew on the mug with my oil-based sharpie marker (which can be found HERE), I would be stuck with it- but that is not the case! Grab a few q-tips and some rubbing alcohol (or a cotton ball for BIG mistakes) and you can fix lines or erase the whole thing and start over- it is great (especially for someone trying it out for the first time and with limited drawing skills, like myself)! Since I am not including my process, I will include some helpful tutorials I found on other blogs, as well as my finished project.

Overall I would give this is an easy to easy-medium skill rating, depending on your level of drawing skills.

PROJECT #2: BIRTHDAY SIGN My second project of the weekend is making a 🎈 BIRTHDAY 🎈 sign, since I am quite forgetful and I want to be able to send a birthday card/present to all of the important people in my life on their birthdays- especially since I don't get to see many of them on a regular basis. I have also had the materials for this project for quite some time (sense a pattern?) and again, I will not post my process since this is not an original idea, but I will post my completed project and the tutorials from which I got my ideas. I was going to use my Cricut Air to cut out the letter for the main sign portion ("birthdays"), but decided to hand-write it since I have been working on my "fonts" (yes, that is what Rachel refers to as different handwriting styles 😉), so that is what I ended up doing, along with hand-writing the letters for the months and the information on the little circles, for which I used a sharpie.

I decided not to paint the wood sign, and instead stain it so it would be easier to match with any room, if I ever decide to move it, AND I had this awesome new staining product to try out: Wood Finishing Cloths (staining cloths) made by Minwax. Let me just tell you that they are amazing and I will be using them for future, small, wood staining projects- easy to use, little to no mess, easy to clean up, and fast drying time- what’s better than that?? You can find them HERE.

When all is said and done I am happy with how this project turned out, but my arm is going to hurt tomorrow after drilling 80+ little holes and opening 80+ little bull ring connectors!

Well...that’s it! I thought that I would get a few more projects done, but it is Sunday afternoon and I intend to spend it with my friends playing some yard games and relaxing with my bunny watching Bob Ross and “The Joy of Painting”- hey, don’t judge! 😉 Until next time...
