I LOVE making baby gifts! The entire time I am creating, I am thinking about the tiny, cute human who will soon be wearing my creation! Another great thing about baby gifts is that they are typically easy and quick to make. (By the way, if you haven’t figured it out by now, I am ALL about the quick and easy projects- they are something that allow me to have my creative outlet while at the same time not taking up all of my free time).
Today I am sharing one of my favorite gifts to make- a “fancy” baby onesie (it is fancy because of the neck or bow tie :)). This gift has been a hit with many new or expecting moms and it will usually show up in a round of baby pictures, because a baby always looks dapper when they are sporting one of these! So, download and print the template (which includes a neck tie and bow tie), grab a couple onesies and some fabric scraps and get creating!

SUPPLIES:
Printer- to print the template
Preferred size of baby onesie
Fat quarter or fabric scraps (fun, bright colors are my go-to for this project) that fit the template.
Heat and Bond Lite
Scissors
Sewing Machine and coordinating tread
Iron and Ironing board
DIRECTIONS:
Download, print, and cut out the tie template.
Iron your onesie and the fabric you are using for the tie.

Trace the tie pattern on to the Heat and Bond Lite (on the smooth side) and cut it out.

Turn the tie fabric over so the wrong side is facing you. Place the tie pattern on to the wrong side of the fabric, with the textured side of the Heat and Bond on the fabric (fabric liner should be face up). *You can also follow the instructions on the Heat and Bond package.

Cut the tie fabric around the pattern and remove the paper liner. Place on the onesie (make sure it is centered and where you want it). Press the iron down on the fabric for 6 seconds or until the tie is secured to the onesie.

Top stitch around the edge of the tie (about 1/8” allowance). *Be careful when sewing- the smaller the onesie, the harder it is to work with.

And that’s it! You are done- now go gift that adorable onesie and hopefully snuggle a baby!
