Here in North Dakota we have been talking about spring since February, and you know what? We have NOT been having spring weather! I don’t know why we have to get our hopes up so early, but alas- next week it is supposed to be in the 60s ALL WEEK! Say what?!? I don’t know if I will be able to handle all of the warmth and sunshine- just kidding, I will be soaking up every last sun beam that I can get my hands on!
Sunshine will hopefully mean MOTIVATION (which I have majorly been lacking)- I mean, who really wants to do anything other than just chill on the couch, catching up on favorite shows when it is chilly, windy, and rainy?? In preparation for all of this fantastic weather coming my way, I wanted to properly greet the sunshine with one of those fun, cute spring wreaths that are floating all over Pinterest, but I wasn’t quite sure where to start. Lucky for me this past weekend I was back in MN to Elisa for the weekend and OF COURSE we had to go shopping at some of our favorite craft stores! Can we say that Crafts Direct of St. Cloud is where it’s at?? They had their big gerbera daisies on sale for 1$ (!!) and that is when inspiration struck- the best part is that you can customize this wreath to fit your own personal style, because who doesn’t want to mix it up every once in a while?
SUPPLIES:
13-16 Gerbera Daisies (in a variety of colors- whatever tickles your fancy
1 Foam wreath form (I used a 12”, but you can go bigger or smaller depending on the number of flowers you get and how you want to arrange them)
1 fat quarter of a coordinating color to the flowers, cut into 2” strips
Stick pins (for attaching the fabric strips to the wreath)
Chalkboard sign, initial, or any other “accessory” for the middle- I had a piece of wood of in the garage that was the perfect size, so I just primed and painted it with chalk paint and now I can write my own message on it (AND it was essentially FREE since I already had the materials)
Hot glue gun (for attaching the accessory)
Ribbon of a coordinating color to make the hanger
Wire cutter
Scissors
ASSEMBLY:
Wrap the wreath form with the strips of fabric.Attach with stick pins- which don’t have to be in the back because you will cover them with the flowers.
Using a wire cutting tool, cut the stems of the flowers so there is 1-1.5” left
Next determine the layout of your flowers. You can go all the way around, put them all to one side- basically you can put them on however you want.
Now you can start poking the flowers through the fabric and into the foam.I used a scissors to put a little snip in the fabric where I wanted the flower to go- this made life easier
Attach the wreath accessory to the spot of your choosing using the hot glue gun.
Cut the ribbon to your desired length (you may want to test it out where you are going to hang it to make sure it will hang how you want) and attach it with hot glue.
And there it is folks- a quick, cute spring wreath (now let the sunshine and motivation ensue)!
